The legendary anonymous art sale and exhibition at Santa Monica Museum of Art returned for its sixth year on Saturday, May 1, 2010. Through the generosity of hundreds of artists and art enthusiasts, INCOGNITO raised $275,000 this year, with all proceeds directly supporting the museum. The element of surprise that underlies INCOGNITO reflects the spirit of discovery that inspires SMMoA`s exhibitions, education, and outreach programs.

More than 800 patrons and artists, including SMMoA Trustees, gallerists, and high-level donors, mingled among 629 works donated by almost 500 artists — and this year saw an unprecedented level of participation from well-known and emerging artists from Los Angeles and worldwide.

Many new artists participated in 2010 by donating original works in an 8˝ x 10˝ format. Guests—from seasoned art patrons to first-time collectors, plus artists, and art enthusiasts — were encouraged to trust their instincts, as all works were signed on the back and artist identities revealed only after purchase. All the works sold for $300 each.
