Foire d’art contemporain, Paris
From October 21 – 24, I will be attending FIAC 2010, the international contemporary art fair in Paris, which takes place at the Grand Palais, the Cour Carrée du Louvre and in the Jardin des Tuileries.
FIAC began in 1974 and showcases 20th and 21st-century visual arts, from modern art to emerging artistic creations. All types of media—painting, sculpture, installations, videos, films, multiples, performances, digital arts, as well as design—are represented by the 200+ galleries selected to exhibit at FIAC. FIAC attracts more than 80,000 collectors, curators, museum directors, artists, journalists, and art lovers from all over the world.
The Grand Palais brings together modern and contemporary art galleries showing solo, group or thematic exhibitions, as well as the design sector, which FIAC was the first international fair to include, beginning in 2004. The Cour Carrée of the Louvre brings together contemporary art galleries focusing on promising creative talent, as well as the Lafayette sector, a juried selection of emerging galleries less than 10 years old.
In the heart of the Jardin des Tuileries, FIAC presents a selection of over 30 monumental sculptures and installations ensconced in the garden’s fountains, basins, lawns, alleys and groves.
In addition to the FIAC fair, many artistic and cultural events will be opening or on display in Paris during the week, such as:
Takashi Murakami at the Château de Versailles
Claude Monet 1840-1926 at Galeries Nationales du Grand Palais
Gabriel Orozco, Arman, Saâdane Afif, Nancy Spero at Centre Pompidou
Adam McEwan and Carol Bove, Winner of the 2009 Lafayette Prize at the Palais de Tokyo
Jean-Michel Basquiat, Didier Marcel, Larry Clark at the Musée d’art moderne de la Ville de Paris
André Kertész at Jeu de Paume
Moebius at Fondation Cartier
